Filing Fee

The filing fee is $40. This includes marriage intentions being filed with the Town Clerk. You will also receive a certified copy of the record after the marriage.

Notice of Intentions

The Town Clerk's office can be unexpectedly and seasonally busy. Calling in advance to set up an appointment to file for your intentions is recommended.

The couple must file intentions together. The marriage license is valid for 60 days. There is a three-day waiting period from the day the intentions are filed until the day the marriage license can be picked up.

If either party has been divorced, the clerk will need a copy of the divorce decree showing date of dissolution of previous marriage.

Proof of Age

Proof of age of both parties is required Acceptable proof is: 

  • Certified copy of a birth certificate
  • Certified copy of a baptismal record
  • Passport
  • Life insurance policy
  • Employment certificate
  • School record
  • Immigration record
  • Naturalization record
  • Court record

A driver's license is not acceptable proof.
