Road Plan 2025

  1. 1 2025 Milling and Paving Plan
  2. 2 2025 Milling and Paving Plan 2

The Town of Orange sent a bid out through the Franklin Regional Council of Governments (FRCOG) to do work in areas throughout town. FRCOG bid our work along with other town's in our region to get a better project cost. Bids went out in April, and were opened May 6th.  A start date for the work is to be determined but expected in late summer of 2025, no sooner than September. The sideshow on this page gives an image of what roads are on the bid for milling and paving this summer. The images do not include the work being done on North Main Street. This is a list of the planned roads in this bid:

  • East Main Steet from downtown to approximately Whitney Street
  • Mechanic Steet from East Main to Logan Ave
  • Lincoln Ave from Mechanic to North Main Street
  • Logan Ave
  • Clark Ave from Mechanic Street to North Main Street
  • Dexter Street
  • Putnam Street
  • Congress Street from South Main to Chase Street
  • Fountain Street
  • Chase Street from Walnut Hill Rd to West Myrtle Street

The Fisher Hill School project included the paving of Dexter Street, and they too have gone out to bid with the FRCOG. That work is expected this summer as well.

The Town will be using Chapter 90 and Rural Roads funds for these projects, with the exception of Dexter Street which is funded under the School Reconstruction Project, and North Main which is Funded through the Federal TIP.

The North Main Street TIP Project has begun, and the road has been closed during working hours as Onyx Corp rebuilds retaining walls. If traveling in that area, please use caution and expect delays., and prepare for detours. There will be road closures and detours. When we have more information on work being done that will impede on traffic, we will post an update on the North Main Street Page.

The Town had applied for and received a Mass Works Grant for $275,000 for engineering services for West Main Street. The remained of the cost for these services will be covered by Chapter 90 funds. This design of the reconstruction for West Main Street is expected to start this spring and has an estimated duration of 13-15 months. Once the engineering is complete, we hope to put a bid out for the work. The section of West Main Street for which engineering and design is being done is for can be seen in the image below. West Main Street Engineering Design

We are aware of the many road issues throughout town and would like to fix them all, but we have to work within the budget. The Highway Department is hoping to address the many pot holes around town and some larger road areas. It is discouraging for everyone to seen the damage to the roads in Orange, unfortunately the weather plays a huge part in the longevity of patchwork and how often we can do patch work. As always, you can contact the Highway Department or fill out a Roadway Issue Form if you come across damages to the road.
