Dear valued Orange Water Department customers/consumers,
As most people in the area are aware, the Sewer Department is making a major emergency repair on East Main Street, and the first step of this is to relocate a portion of the water main that is in the way of making that repair. This process unfortunately will cause the unavoidable situation of having to shut off the water main in order to make these connections to move the water system piping, and this will directly impact some of the Orange Water Department customers in the immediate area of the East Main Street and Water Street intersection. This is what is tentatively scheduled to happen on Wednesday, October 15th early in the morning. We are trying to give as much notice as possible to the customer base. This event may not be locked in by the contractor until the day before, but it IS when it is expected to happen as of right now.
Customers on East Main Street from 1 to 30 and on South Main Street from 1 through 11 South Main Street will be without water for a portion of the day, as notified with a blue door hanging notice(which will include copies of this notice). Customers with fire sprinkler systems, which also includes the Courthouse on Water Street (sprinkler system only will be affected at this location) should contact their fire sprinkler service company for instructions on what to do with that system during the shutdown. The contractor is doing work to make the final connections of this relocated water main. The short time frame for notice is due to contractor scheduling needs to maintain the project timeline. This installation will hopefully be done with a minimal time frame of service shut down, and customers all around the work area can expect some temporary water discoloration when restored that should clear within a day, much like it does when the Water Department flushes fire hydrants.
